ArcFM Engine 10.2.1b Release Contents

Schneider Electric offers three ArcFM Engine products: ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine, ArcFM Engine Developer Kit, and ArcFM Engine Runtime.

  • ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine is an application developed using ArcFM Engine and provides query and display tools for ArcGIS Engine geodatabases. ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine also has two available extensions, Redliner and Inspector.
  • The ArcFM Engine Developer Kit provides the development tools necessary to create a custom ArcFM Engine application.
  • ArcFM Engine Runtime is necessary for users who wish to run a custom application developed using the ArcFM Engine Developer Kit.

Schneider Electric also offers an ArcFM Engine extension called ArcFM Engine Editor that gives users editing capabilities with their ArcFM Engine application. Each ArcFM Engine product and its specific requirements are discussed below. Current licenses are required to run these ArcFM Engine extensions.

ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine

Note: ArcFM Solution 10.2.1b applications are compatible with ArcGIS 10.2.1. If you are using ArcFM Engine Runtime or ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine, you must have the 10.2 version of these products installed before installing the 10.2.1b version. Visit the GIS Support place on exchange for updates. Information for maintaining correctly synchronized ArcGIS and ArcSDE versions can also be found there.

ArcFM Viewer, based on Esri's ArcGIS Engine and built with the ArcFM Engine Developer Kit, provides a high-performance, robust query and display tool. With ArcFM Viewer, utility personnel can view, trace, and query data to help minimize costs, or optimize the investment in maintenance and construction to get the most from the facility network.

Because ArcFM Viewer is run independently of ArcMap, it may not be opened through ArcMap (like ArcFM). Instead, select ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine from the ArcFM Solution folder on the Start Menu.

ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine 10.2.1b contains the following bug fixes:

  • There were no bug fixes made specific to the ArcFM Viewer in the 10.2.1b release.

Redliner Extension

Redliner is an ArcFM Viewer extension. However, the Redliner functionality is available in ArcFM by default though it does require its own license. The Redliner extension provides a graphics-only markup environment in ArcFM Viewer. This functionality may be used with both mobile and desktop ArcFM and Viewer clients. For example, a field user may access ArcFM Viewer with the Redliner extension to sketch in the field using graphics, and then send the job back to the enterprise so that those redlines can guide an ArcFM editor making edits to the enterprise ArcSDE Geodatabase.

Redliner Extension 10.2.1b contains the following bug fixes:

  • There were no bug fixes made specific to the Redliner Extension in the 10.2.1b release.

Inspector Extension

With the Inspector extension, utility users have all of the functionality of ArcFM Viewer and the Redliner Extension at their disposal along with the ability to update existing attributes on features as well as create, edit, and manage related records. Users can initiate inspection sessions using ArcFM’s Session Manager in the office or in the field, and update attribute data and add markups as part of their daily work. Sessions can be sent back to the enterprise to be incorporated into the workflow for updates.

Inspector Extension 10.2.1b contains the following bug fixes:

  • There were no bug fixes made specific to the Inspector Extension in the 10.2.1b release.

ArcFM Engine Runtime

ArcFM Engine Runtime provides the required infrastructure to run custom applications built using the ArcFM Engine Developer Kit. ArcFM Engine custom applications executed with ArcFM Engine Runtime may be executed on top of ArcGIS Engine Runtime.

ArcFM Engine Runtime 10.2.1b contains the following bug fixes:

  • There were no bug fixes made specific to ArcFM Engine Runtime in the 10.2.1b release.

ArcFM Engine Developer Kit

ArcFM Engine provides the objects necessary to develop a custom application for viewing ArcFM data in your enterprise system. ArcFM Engine is not an end user product, but instead a collection of tools for software developers. The software components that compose the ArcFM Engine may be used with various programming interfaces such as .NET and COM.

ArcFM Engine Developer Kit 10.2.1b contains the following bug fixes:

  • There were no bug fixes made specific to the ArcFM Engine Developer Kit in the 10.2.1b release.

ArcFM Engine Editor Extension

The ArcFM Engine Editor Extension provides users with the ability to perform geodatabase edits while using an ArcFM Solution application or a custom application built on ArcFM Engine. This extension requires the ArcGIS Geodatabase Update Extension. The Engine Editor Extension is only available programmatically (using MMAppInitialize). The Engine Editor Extension requires its own license.

ArcFM Engine Editor Extension 10.2.1b contains the following bug fixes:

  • There were no bug fixes made specific to the ArcFM Engine Editor Extension in the 10.2.1b release.

Upgrade Information

All upgrade information is on myArcFM.

The ArcFM Solution Resource Center offers the latest Using and Configuration Guides for each product. You can view this information before installing the latest release.

Installation Instructions

The ArcFM Engine 10.2.1b installers are complete installers. ArcFM Engine 10.2.1b requires a complete upgrade to ArcFM Solution 10.2.1b, and a complete upgrade to ArcGIS 10.2.1 or higher, before installation. You cannot install ArcFM prior to installing ArcGIS.

Anti-Spyware: Before installation, disable all anti-spyware applications as they may interfere with installation. They may be restarted after installation is complete.

System Requirements: Ensure that your hardware and software meet the ArcGIS system requirements. Also ensure that your hardware and software meet the ArcFM system requirements defined at the GIS Support place on exchange.

Known Issues

  • ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine: Pan/zoom performance in an Engine-only environment is very poor.
  • ArcFM Viewer for ArcGIS Engine - Custom Scales: Custom scales in an MXD are not displayed in Viewer for Engine. ESRI Bug NIM083903
  • Editing data which causes changes in the Feeder Manager network using Mobile Sessions and Designs is not supported. Feeder Manager 2.0 data will not update after replaying mobile sessions and therefore users could see incorrect Feeder Manager 2.0 data. Applications must be restarted for the changes to appear.
  • When upgrading from a pre-10.1 environment, you may have to edit your Master.custom.layout file to update assembly versions. See the Import/Export Configuration topic in the Engine Configuration guide for more information.
  • In some cases the Water Isolation Trace in Viewer for Engine will not return results. MM53478
  • If a user cancels out of the Viewer for Engine login screen, an error may be logged to the Event Viewer, though the user should experience no issues. MM53479

SDK Installer: To install the ArcFM Solution SDK Documentation, the Microsoft Windows SDK or Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 must be installed. The SDK installer is a large file to download (~600Mb). With 10.0.3, we had to change the developer help format in order to integrate with Visual Studio 2010. This new format, in conjunction with the volume of developer help, has led to a very slow installation process. Installing the SDK will take several minutes. The ArcFM Solution Resource Center contains everything available in the SDK installer plus some additional information (e.g., free tools and technical white papers).
