NOTES
API Changes - the API changes mentioned in
Migrate to 10.8.1a document are applicable to 10.8.1 SP2 as well. We are adding this in here as we normally do not make API changes in service packs, but this one is applicable to 10.8.1 SP2 release.
- For an Oracle database connection in ArcGIS 10.8.1, use the tns name. For example, use orca.yankees rather than sde:oracle11g:orca.yankees. The longer format leads to inconsistent behavior with regard to login screens. If a stored display has been saved by someone who logged in using the longer format of the login string, connect with only the tns name and save the stored display again.
- Simple-edge networks require the following configuration for simple edge features:
- If you are using Feeder Manager 2.0, assign the Feeder Cache Maintenance AU to the On Feature Split event for simple edge features. If there are multiple AUs, the Feeder Cache Maintenance AU should be the last AU assigned. If you are using Feeder Manager 1.0, you do not need this AU.
- Set Split On Edit to yes for all junction features that connect to simple edges.
- If you are unable to save stored items in a versioned geodatabase, ArcSDE's MAXBLOBSIZE and MAXBUFSIZE settings may be set too low. Schneider Electric recommends setting these values between 10MB and 20MB. Refer to the ArcFM Solution Online Help for more information on how to change these settings.
ArcFM 10.8.1 SP2 contains the following bug fixes:
- CLS-78830 - Application crashes when accessing Properties via ArcCatalog view for Designer Feature Classes within ArcMap.
- CLS-81125 - ArcFM Locator Object Query issues using Enter key.
- CLS-81478 - Error during write to MM_EDITED_FEATURES is silent to user.
- CLS-81487 - Create Edit Task is displaying UNREGISTERED PROGRAM! for the Map Inset features.

Conduit Manager and Underground Facilities Manager
Conduit Manager is an integrated set of tools and dialogs to add, annotate, and maintain the underground infrastructure of the utility network system. The Underground Facility Manager allows you to create and manage underground structures that connect the conduit.
Important Upgrade Note:
To enable the new Multiple Cables Per Phase functionality behavior (this was released at 10.8.1 SP1, if you have already completed these steps at 10.8.1 SP1, you don't have to repeat them again), you have to add an integer field called Cables (exactly as written here) to the attributed relationship classes between Conduits and the various underground cable features. If you have more than one cable from a feature associated with the conduit, we’ll populate that field with the number of cables.
Use the Add Field GeoProcessing tool in ArcCatalog to add the new field. A NULL field means the same as a value of one, so you don't have to populate this field for all existing data, simply add the field/column.

Any feature class with the ULSMEMBER model name, which you want to support multiple cables, will have an attributed relationship class with the conduit feature class, with a ULS model name, and another attributed relationship class with a UFMDUCT feature class, probably called Duct (assuming UFM is being used). To both of those, you should add this new Cables field with a Long Field Type, the checkbox checked for Field IsNullable, and unchecked for Field IsRequired.
Conduit Manager and Underground Facilities Manager 10.8.1 SP2 contain the following bug fixes:
- CLS-80680 - Duct deletion is failing and multiple errors are logged in the event viewer.
- CLS-81010 - Unable to abandon ducts for unabandoned manholes.
- CLS-82203 - Diagram Manager doesn't show conductor association made from AE if association already made through Diagram Manager.
- CLS-82241 - Two Duct Banks are created through Diagram Manager when cables field is missing.
- CLS-82242 - Unable to place ductbank using Create Opposite with Cables field missing.
- CLS-82263 - Edit Conduit association doesn't show associations properly in some scenarios.
- CLS-82264 - Associating a conductor to conduit through Attribute editor results in removal of other related records.
- CLS-82282 - Disassociating one conductor from conductors associated to the same duct results in other dissociations.
- CLS-83406 - Updating related Conductor causes Cross Section Annotation header to use domain code instead of description in some data.
Designer
Designer provides an integrated environment for preparing construction work sketches and job cost estimates. It also provides an automated means to update the baseline corporate GIS database, based on changes to the electrical, gas, and water distribution facilities shown in the work sketch.
Designer 10.8.1 SP2 contains the following bug fixes:
- CLS-80843 - Update button doesn't enable for Span work location EDM updates.
- CLS-82693 - Non-Synchronized kVA values seen with Transformer Units when using the Work Function Tool.
Designer Express
Designer Express creates a quick construction sketch and cost estimate while relaxing some of the GIS and Accounting principles that can be handled later in the design process.
Designer Express 10.8.1 SP2 contains the following bug fixes:
- There were no bug fixes for this product.
Network Adapter Classic
Network Adapter Classic provides an interface to export a selected feeder from the geodatabase and import it into a MultiSpeak compliant analysis engine such as Milsoft.
Network Adapter Classic 10.8.1 SP2 contains the following bug fixes:
- There were no bug fixes for this product.
Network Adapter Standalone
Network Adapter Standalone supports exports of network feeders from an ArcFM geodatabase to MultiSpeak and CIM XMLs, allowing import to Schneider Electric DMS, Windmil engineering analysis tool, and other solutions.
Network Adapter Standalone 10.8.1 SP2 contains the following bug fixes:
- There were no bug fixes for this product.
Object Reader for ArcMap
The ArcFM Object Reader provides ArcFM custom geo-objects that allow read-only access to ArcFM data in the geodatabase. Object Reader may be used only with an ArcFM geodatabase and when no other ArcFM Solution Desktop product is installed.
Separate installers are provided for Object Reader to work with ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, and for background geoprocessing in a desktop environment. The latter two are 64 bit applications.
The Object Reader for Background Geoprocessing was designed to enable running 64-bit GP geoprocessing tools in the background while you have ArcMap open. It does not support .mdb or .xls based databases or tables. It requires that you have ArcGIS Desktop Background Geoprocessing (64-bit) and Object Reader for ArcMap to be installed as well.
Object Reader 10.8.1 SP2 contains the following bug fixes:
- There were no bug fixes for this product.

Known Issue
- ArcGIS - The ArcFM Data Source Wizard can experience a memory leak when using SQL Server databases. (Esri Bug NIM080967)
- ArcGIS - ArcFM Map Book Editor Preview crashes ArcMap when the Bing map from ArcGIS Online is in a stored display.
- ArcGIS - Moving a WMS layer out of a group layer can lead to a crash when switching stored displays.
- ArcFM - For Oracle clients using Stored Displays that contain joins, you must use direct connect if you want to be able to switch your stored display while already in an open session and have joined layers point to the proper version. TNS-style connections won't work in this case.
- ArcFM - Labels from underlying features will show through a Map Inset placed on top of them (in terms of drawing order), as per Esri bug BUG-000106546.
- ArcFM - The Find Feeder tool experiences slowdowns when using Windows Server 2012, as there are delays between entered keystrokes appearing in the UI and doing automatic searching. These issues haven't been noticed in any other operating system, and are fixed if Windows Server 2016 is used. Note that the issue is exacerbated by a database with a large number of feeders. The version of ArcFM code doesn't matter in this case, as the problematic interaction is within the OS framework.
- ArcFM Desktop & Viewer - A non-exact match search in a numerical field on the ArcFM Display Field Locator will not return Feeder Manager 2 fields because of Esri bug NIM096302.
- Conduit Manager - Feeder Manager 2.0 fields cannot be configured to show in cross-section annotation.
- Display Scaling Issues - Certain forms in the ArcFM Solution written in legacy coding languages (Workflow Manager and Session Manager are two examples) may show display scaling issues at high DPI (greater than 100%) settings. Microsoft has made significant display scaling improvements in the latest .NET framework and in Windows 10 to make it possible to fix these issues, so they are fixed at 10.6.1 and with Windows 10. Using earlier versions of ArcFM Solution OR using Windows 7 will not contain fixes for these high DPI display issues.
- Feeder Manager 2 - FM2 joins appear to break annotation expressions. This is because annotation expressions are defined in ArcCatalog, where they are defined to reference a field as LABELTEXT. When you add FM2 joins (or any other join) to your map, the field is prepended with information to make it fully qualified, causing ArcCatalog to not recognize the field. A bug has been filed with Esri.
- Publishing .MXD's with Feeder Manager 2 - Any customers using FM2 joins that are saved within an MXD or Stored Display will need to remove and re-add the joins before publishing the MXD. Automatic joins will point to the correct FM2 workspace when the map is published and will not have this same issue.
- File Geodatabase Compression - If you enable the "Compress File Geodatabase" option in Geodatabase Replication, the replica will fail. (Esri Bug)
- Help - Our context sensitive help opens two tabs in a web browser. (Esri BUG-000096609)
- Mobile - Using Mobile Sessions and Designs to edit data that causes changes in the Feeder Manager network is not supported. Feeder Manager 2.0 data does not update after replaying mobile sessions, resulting in incorrect Feeder Manager 2.0 data. Applications must be restarted for the changes to appear.
- Network Adapter - When preparing to export with Network Adapter CIM, we look for custom processors to run. Some installed components may have dependencies that are not available to Network Adapter. In that case we log the issue as a warning and continue. (note that this isn't new to 10.8.1, but it appears to be more likely now).
